What will you learn in a Firearms Safety Course?

4 Rules of Safe Gun Handling

The 4 rules of gun safety are a standard lesson that every responsible gun owner needs to learn and know. The following 4 rules must be practiced at all times.

1. Treat every firearm as if it’s loaded

By treating every firearm as if it’s loaded, it will reduce the risk of an accidental discharge. Any gun you come in contact with is a “loaded gun”, no matter what the circumstance. If you are at a gun store, a gun show or looking at your best friend’s latest acquisition, the firearm must be presumed loaded.

2. Keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction

Don’t point the gun at anything you’re not willing to destroy because you will be held accountable for every round that comes out of it.

3. Keep Your Finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot

There’s no reason for your finger to be inside the trigger guard until you have positively identified your target and are ready to fire.

4. Know what’s behind your target

You need to be aware of your backstop and that it is sufficient enough to stop a round. If you miss your target, it is safe to say that the round will go until it is stopped.
